Our third stop in Europe was Lisbon, Portugal. Lisbon has the most beautiful port in the world—red roofs cascading up the hills. We went on a guided tour of Alfama, the oldest district in Lisbon. The city is ancient, and was completely destroyed by an earthquake and tsunami and rebuilt in the late 1700’s. The waves in the tile patterns are a trademark of the city, and represent the tidal wave.
