We were exhausted in Hamburg. I had never been to Germany before. It was devoid of older history because it was fire bombed in WWII. We appreciated the St Nicolai tower that was left as a memorial of the war—a tower from a 1200’s church that was left destroyed and covered in smoke. Tour guides don’t want to talk about the war. Can’t say that I blame them.
